Prostate Cancer Research Program

Proposal Submission

Vision

Conquer prostate cancer

Mission

Fund research that will eliminate death and suffering from prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, accounting for 30 percent of all cancers in men. This year, approximately 192,280 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and an estimated 27,360 will die from the disease. Prostate cancer is second only to lung cancer as a leading cause of cancer deaths in men. During the period of 2000 to 2003, the average annual incidence of prostate cancer among African American men was 60 percent higher than among Caucasian men. Since 1980, the average annual death rate among African American men has been more than twice that of Caucasian men. Currently, there is no cure for locally advanced or metastatic prostate cancer.
